The method
How the job runs
The order matters more than most people expect — several of these steps stop the one after it going wrong.
Assess the roof and the access
Condition, pitch, tile type and what can be reached safely. If a roof isn't safe to work on, that's the first thing we tell you.
Take the moss off
Growth is removed with the tile surface in mind. Concrete tiles have a surface that can be blasted away along with the moss, which shortens the life of the roof rather than extending it.
Clear valleys, ridges and gutters
The debris we've just loosened doesn't get left on the roof to wash into the guttering the first time it rains.
Clear the ground
Moss comes down onto the drive, the path and the garden. It gets picked up and rinsed off before we leave.
Tell you what we saw up there
Slipped slates, cracked tiles, failed mortar. We're not roofers, but you should know what's up there, and you can't see it from the ground.

Moss comes back
How fast depends on shade, aspect and overhanging trees. A north-facing roof under trees will regrow far quicker than a sunny one, and no clean changes that.
Pressure is a real risk on a roof
Heavy pressure strips the granular surface off concrete tiles and drives water under slates and up into the roof space. Faster isn't better here.
Some roofs shouldn't be walked on
Fragile, brittle or badly deteriorated roofs are a genuine safety issue. If that's what we find, we'll say so rather than take a chance on it.

Will cleaning damage the tiles?
It can if it's done at the wrong pressure — concrete tiles have a surface layer that comes off under a hard jet, and slates can be cracked or lifted. Method matched to the roof is the whole difference between a clean and a repair bill.
How long before the moss comes back?
It depends entirely on the roof. Shade, aspect and overhanging trees drive it. A sunny, open roof stays clear for years; one under trees on the north side will start again far sooner.
Do you clear up what comes off?
Yes. Moss ends up in the gutters, on the drive and through the borders. Clearing the gutters and rinsing the ground down is part of the job.
