The method
How the job runs
The order matters more than most people expect — several of these steps stop the one after it going wrong.
Check the fabric first
Different fabrics take different treatment, and some take very little. We check what it is and test in a spot that doesn't show before anything else happens.
Dry soil out first
Loose grit, hair and crumbs come out dry. Putting moisture onto dry soil turns it into mud in the weave, so this step comes before any liquid.
Pre-treat the marks
Spots, arm and head contact points and heavily used seat cushions get treated on their own and given time to work before the main clean.
Clean and extract
The fabric is cleaned and the moisture drawn straight back out with the loosened soil in it — the aim is a piece of furniture that's damp, not wet.
Groom and leave it drying
The pile is set back the right way and we tell you how long to keep it clear and what to do with the windows.

The things worth saying out loud in advance, including what this job can't fix.
Some marks are damage, not dirt
Bleach spots, sun fading and dye transfer from denim or throws are changes to the fibre itself. Cleaning won't reverse them, and we'll say so when we look rather than after.
Clear the small stuff beforehand
Cushions, throws, remotes and anything under the sofa. Moving the furniture itself is our job, not yours.

How long will the sofa take to dry?
Usually a few hours with a window open and air moving through the room, longer for dense fabrics or a cold day. We'll give you a realistic figure for your fabric before we start, and it's better to plan on not using it that evening.
Will every stain come out?
No, and anyone who promises otherwise hasn't looked at the sofa yet. Most food, drink and body soiling comes out. Dye damage, bleach and old set stains that have been treated with a supermarket spot cleaner are the ones that often don't.
Do you need to take the covers off?
Not usually — the clean is done in place. Removing covers to wash them can shrink them or leave you unable to get them back on, so we don't do it as a matter of course.
