The method
How the job runs
The order matters more than most people expect — several of these steps stop the one after it going wrong.
Establish what's on the floor
Polish, sealer, or nothing at all. It changes the whole approach, so we test a small area before committing to one.
Clear and sweep out
Everything loose comes off first, including the grit along the edges and under the units where it collects.
Break down the build-up
The old cloudy layer is softened and worked over — including the textured pattern on safety flooring, which needs agitating rather than wiping.
Rinse and take it back off
The dissolved build-up and dirt is removed with the moisture rather than pushed to the edges of the room, which is where a mop leaves it.

Re-dressing with polish
If the floor had a polish on it and you want one back on afterwards, say so when you enquire so it's discussed and priced up front rather than assumed either way.
Some wear is permanent
Vinyl that's been walked through to the backing, or cut and scored, won't come back with cleaning. It'll be clean, but the damage stays.
Keep off it while it dries
Vinyl is slippery wet. We'll tell you how long to stay off, and in a commercial setting we'll work around when the floor can actually be closed.

Why has my vinyl gone grey?
Almost always build-up, not dirt in the vinyl. Layers of polish and cleaner have gone cloudy with dirt trapped in them. Mopping adds another layer; taking it off is what fixes it.
Can safety flooring be cleaned properly?
Yes, but it needs working over rather than wiping — the raised grip pattern that stops people slipping is the same thing that holds dirt down in it.
How long before we can walk on it?
Usually a short while once it's dry, but wet vinyl is genuinely slippery, so we'd rather agree a time when the room can be kept clear than have someone go over on it.
